Curriculum Overview

Little Wheels Training currently has two curricula available, our beginner balance bike training and our advanced balance bike training. Both classes include training in balance bike skills, physical literacy, listening skills, awareness and decision making skills, and safety.

Beginner Balance Bike Training

Our beginner curriculum was designed to be taught in eight one-hour sessions. It was created for children aged 2-4, but classes may include children as young as 18 months and as old as six. This curriculum is designed to teach children balance bike and traffic safety basics through songs, games, and activities.

 

Some concepts covered in this curriculum:

  • Proper fitting of bikes and helmets

  • Getting on and off the bike

  • Naming parts of the bike

  • Steering

  • Traffic safety

  • Safe stopping

  • Gliding

  • Riding over small bumps and hills

  • and much more!

 

Advanced Balance Bike Training

Our advanced curriculum was designed to be taught in eight one-hour sessions. It was created for children aged 2-4+ who are comfortable riding a balance bike, ideally having taken the beginner class. This curriculum is designed to teach children more advanced biking and traffic safety skills through a variety of activity types.

Some concepts covered in this curriculum:

  • Advanced balance skills, riding on narrow paths

  • Steering and direction changes while gliding

  • Curbs, bumps, obstacles, hills

  • Traffic safety

  • Difficult terrains

  • Racing skills and teamwork

  • and much more!
